Tazorac Gel is provided in 30g and 100g tubes.
Tazorac contains a synthetic retinoid (tazarotene) as its active ingredient. It is available in cream and gel formulations. Both formulations are available in .05% and .1% strengths. Tazorac is marketed by Allergan. Tazorac Gel and Cream are approved for plaque psoriasis and acne.
After administration it is converted into its active form, tazarotenic acid. Similar to adapalene, it is selective in binding to different types of retinoid receptors.
The general profile for Tazorac is similar to that of topical tretinoin products. However, some researchers have commented that, compared with tretinoin, tazarotene may be a bit more potent, and also a bit more irritating to the skin. Also, unlike other topical retinoids, which are categorized as Pregnancy Category C, tazarotene is designated Pregnancy Category X.
